2. Sedimentation
Once the particles have formed into larger groups, they are separated from the water through a process called sedimentation. In this stage, the water is allowed to sit still to allow the heavy floc to sink to the bottom, forming a layer of sediment.

3. Filtration
The next step in the process is filtration. During this stage, the water is passed through a series of filters to remove any remaining impurities. These filters can be made from a variety of materials, such as sand, gravel, or activated carbon.

4. Disinfection
After filtration, the water is disinfected to kill any harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites that may be present. The most common disinfectant used is chlorine, which is added in small amounts to the water. Other disinfectants, such as ozone, ultraviolet light, and hydrogen peroxide, may also be used.

5. Fluoridation (optional)
Finally, some water treatment systems may add fluoride to the water to help improve dental health. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that can help prevent tooth decay when added to drinking water in small amounts.
