Product Specification

There are generally two methods for leaching uranium ore: acid method and alkali method. The acid leaching method generally uses sulfuric acid as the leaching agent. In the sulfuric acid leaching solution, uranium often exists in four forms: [UO2]2+, UO2SO4, [UO2(SO4)2]2– and [UO2(SO4)3]4–. In addition, there are also a large number of impurity cations such as Fe3+, Al3+, Ca2+, Mg2+ in the leaching solution. Carbonate containing uranium ore is mainly extracted by alkaline leaching. In carbonate leaching solution, the existing form of hexavalent uranium is uranyl tricarbonate anion [UO2(CO3)3]4–.

Lanlang ® TA463D is a high-quality anion exchange resin that contains weak base groups [-N+(R2)·H2O] on a highly-porous acrylic structure. Its main application is in the extraction, separation, and concentration of uranium in alkaline leaching uranium mines. This top-tier resin boasts exceptional performance and is widely recognized as a powerful tool for enhancing productivity and achieving superior outcomes in uranium mining. Trust Lanlang ® TA463D to help you meet and exceed your production goals today!

The alkaline leaching method consists of a significant quantity of free humic acid and hydrosulfites present in the leaching solution. When employing styrene-based, strong alkaline anion resins, these impurity ions fail to undergo leaching together during the standard leaching process, ultimately resulting in their aggregation and subsequent buildup on the anion resin, thereby influencing the adsorption of uranium. This phenomenon is officially coined as organic matter pollution of ion exchange resins. Nevertheless, with the implementation of advanced techniques, we can overcome this issue and enhance uranium adsorption efficiency, thus paving the way towards more effective and sustainable uranium extraction.

Groundwater Remediation

Uranium is a natural element found in groundwater throughout the world and regulated in some countries. Uranium is usually present as the monovalent uranyl ionic complex (U3O8-) at very low levels in groundwater and thus the most cost effective treatment is to remove the uranium with a highly selective ion exchange resin and then dispose of the uranium-loaded resin.

Mining

Worldwide, acid leaching with sulfuric acid is the most common method of extracting uranium from ores, with alkaline leaching being practiced primarily in the United States. However, based on available ores, alkaline leaching is becoming more common because of its lesser environmental impact. Current mining practices using lower concentration leaching solutions generate large volumes of pregnant leach solutions (PLS), which favors the use of ion exchange (IX) for the recovery-purification step because IX can more economically concentrate uranium from large volumes of PLS.
